John joined Benfield Corporate Risk in 2005 as Chief Executive Officer to develop Benfield's capabilities in the corporate risk insurance broking sector.
Prior to Benfield, John originally joined Marsh & McLennan in 1977 in their New York Major Accounts Division. In 1981 he joined the then newly formed Marine & Energy Operation where his duties included the identification and evaluation of risk and the subsequent structuring and placement of energy programmes for variety of marine and energy customers worldwide.
During his career at Marsh, John worked on a variety of assignments including customer development, marketing, production and management work, and he was directly involved in insurance programmes for a number of major oil and petrochemical customers worldwide. In 1995 John moved to London to 'globalise' the Marsh Energy practice.
Following the successful integrations in the UK of Bowring Marsh & McLennan and Johnson & Higgins, then J&H Marsh & McLennan and Sedgwick Marine & Energy practices, he was appointed Chairman in 1998 of International Operations of Marine & Energy for Marsh. In 2000 he was appointed Global Chairman of the Marine & Energy practice.
John holds a BSc in Economics/Finance from New Hampshire College and an MBA in Finance from Fordham University.
He is a licensed Lloyd's broker and holds a New York State broker's license.
